Bleeding Disorders Association History of the John S. Wyld Sr. Golf Tournament The inaugural tournament, held at the Schenectady Municipal Golf Course in 1980, was a modest attempt by four foursomes who had a keen interest in golf and whose lives were directly affected by the bleeding disorder known as hemophilia. The idea was to raise enough funds to support activities and programs that would assist others with the same affliction. Golf was followed by beer and hot dogs in the clubhouse and the event was a success. In 1983, the tournament moved to Burden Lake Country Club and as the number of participating golfers began to grow, so did the support from area organizations. In Spring 1985, John S. Wyld, Sr. passed away and it was decided that the event would forever be carried on in his name. That is when the momentum began to build. The number of sponsors increased, more prizes were added and additional volunteers were recruited to run the event. Through the years, the tournament has been held at Western Turnpike Golf Course (remember the monsoon in 1991?), Evergreen Country Club (1992, when the golf format was changed to a scramble), Capital Hills (1997) and our new home since 1998, Normanside Country Club. | ||||
